4 Sure Fire Ways to Increase Nitric Oxide

Nitric Oxide is a very important, natural chemical, with wide ranging benefits in the human body.  NO signals your blood vessels to expand, allowing important nutrients like oxygen easier access to your cells and organs and removing waste like lactic acid.  Because of this, nitric oxide has shown benefits like improving muscle mass and tone, increasing endurance, reducing blood pressure, improving sexual function, ameliorating neuropathy associated with diabetes, improving mental power and more!

Here are four easy steps to increase nitric oxide in your blood:

  1.  Eat foods rich in nitrates like chicken, fish, nuts, spinach, kale, beets and beet root.  These foods help increase the amount of nitric oxide the body produces by providing the raw nutrients necessary for the creation of this substance.  You can find more information here.
  2.  Take nutritional supplements rich in l-arginine, l-citruline, and agmatine.  These types of supplements have been shown to increase no production, increase the availability of nitric oxide as well as increase its efficacy.  Agmatine is my favorite because it seems to by pass the natural feed back loops that inhibit the full effectiveness of the other amino acids I mentioned.  Furthermore, agmatine seems to focus the body on building nitric oxide where you want it, in the blood vessels in the muscles rather than in the brain, where it can get in the way of other processes.
  3.  Exercise.  Vigorous exercise has been shown to naturally increase nitric oxide concentrations in the blood.  Cardio work is good, but to increase no, you really ought to try high intensity interval training (HIIT).  This kind of exercise, like what you would find in P90x and some of the intense home workout programs, is more effective at increasing nitric oxide concentrations in the blood.
  4.  Get some sun.  I know, this is the opposite of what people have been telling you for years.  With the risk of skin cancer, it is clear that you should be careful with your sun exposure.  However, recent studies in Europe have indicated that sunlight may be a very important component in reducing the risk of stroke and heart disease.  In fact, many more people die from hypertension and related heart conditions than die from skin cancer.  As it turns out, your skin has vast stores of nitrate which can be converted to nitric oxide with some prompting from sunlight.  Increased nitric oxide production along with the production of vitamin D may be worth a little careful exposure to the sun.

So there you have it.  You don’t need to spend a ton of money on sports supplements to naturally increase NO production in your body and thereby enjoy the amazing benefits of this miracle molecule.
